Welcome to this week's Mobile Development newsletter from CodeProject.
Former Apple CEO John Sculley: 'I think BlackBerry can be saved' Of course, his track record isn't the most reliable. Or maybe he's just thinking of 'saved' as in 'put aside' or 'protected from damnation'? (more: Tech Vibes) Microsoft is making an astonishing $2 billion per year from Android patent royalties Compare that with the mostly unknown - but estimated - $600 million from Windows Phone, and the fire sale on Surface. Microsoft could (but shouldn't) switch over to just milking Android producers as their mobile strategy. (more: Business Insider) Unifying developer registration: Windows and Windows Phone From the "stuff I thought was always the case" file. Ah well, better late than never. Short version: if you've registered for one, you're now registered for both and can submit apps. Shorter version: PRIZES! (more: Window Phone Developer Blog)
What's making your Android insecure? Blame those free apps you never asked for Like you needed a reason to hate the bloat ware... sorry, "pre-loaded applications" your carrier and/or phone maker added to your app. In addition to them requesting too many permissions from the OS, they're probably also the least tested (at least the ones I've tried to use seem that way). (more: Ars Technica) Microsoft delays Office for iPad, but speeds up Office for Windows RT Seeing as how iWork is free on the iPad now (for new devices), I can't see why they'd feel any need to rush to get iOffice working. Granted, there are a metric boat-load of devices they could be aiming for. (more: WP Central)
Departing BlackBerry CEO pens letter to employees as company's 'biggest fan' 'Thanks for the $22 million! Peace, out, suckas!' Or words to that effect (he's German, so 'suckas' probably isn't right).
