Welcome to this week's Web Development newsletter from CodeProject.
Prerender One of the (fairly big, IMO) problems with using JavaScript single page app frameworks is that search engines tend to get a fairly unhelpful version of the page: just including the JavaScript that downloads the rest of the page. Prerender provides a 'middleman' service that returns the HTML if it detects a search engine request. (more: Prerender.io) Node.js and the new web front-end An interesting perspective on the use of Node.js -- not as the entire back-end for a system, but as a middle tier. Gives you a chance to filter and transform, without forcing you to write the entire back-end in JavaScript. (more: Nicholas Zakas) Native apps for the browser Web development can be a little strange around the edges. Or rather, when you look around the edges of what some people are doing with Web development, you see strange things. Arc is a JavaScript library that: "gives websites a Linux virtual machine on every client." So, you can use it to publish native apps. Don't ask why, I certainly can't tell you, but cool it does seem. (more: Arc)
Staging strategies "Why bother with staging? Why not just push directly to production?" Yeah, I've heard that one before: sometimes from new devs, but also (frighteningly) from management. "It doubles the cost of the site." "The dev has made sure it works on his machine." Oi. Just bite the bullet and set up that extra server. (more: NetGuru) Yes bad Javascript will shut your site down I think he really should have said, "can" there, not will, but his points are interesting. It's also a nice list of warnings for anyone trying to move to a single page app model of Web application. (more: Rob Conery) Ultimate guide to learning AngularJS in one day Who has 21 days to waste learning something new? Surely everything can be learned about something in mere hours. That way you have 20 days to play minesweeper before you need to show that you've learned the new coolness (which Angular is, of course).
