Kin. Whatever happened to them? (there's supposed to be some sarcasm mark here). Still, it might be interesting to see if it has a chance - it's open source (Linux-based and HTML5 everywhere), so the phone companies might be interested. (more: Mozilla) Google: Don't fear Android malware Sure, why not? What's the worst that can happen? Data loss, embarrassment, theft. Sure, according to Google, only 0.001% of apps downloaded by Android users pose any harm to their devices or data. So, it's like a nice easy game of Russian Roulette. (more: Information Week)
Google brings Mobile Backend Starter, its one-click deployable cloud backend for Android, to iOS Seems like a kind of cool way of plopping a "Cloud" back end into a system, plus the source is available. You get pub/sub, authentication, and notifications in one swell foop. The only problem (IMO) is that you need to use the Google AppEngine as part of the back end. (more: The Next Web) Samsung debuts first curved-screen phone, the Galaxy Round At last! The tyranny of flat phones has been conquered. Now we can get back to that world peace thing. OK, I get it: technically difficult. But... did we need this? Are people clamouring that flat phones just don't fit in their hands properly? Gah and blah. (For reals on this one) I have so wanted this for so long as other solutions (read VNC) is verboten at one customer I have. Besides, who doesn't like administering remote computers using their phone? (more: Apple Insider) Windows Phone 8.1 rumors emerge Improvements continue: 77% API parity with the desktop version, possibly bigger screens, and THE ABILITY TO CLOSE APPS MANUALLY.
