I'll admit I get a bit weirded-out thinking about a device listening to everything I do and sending that data back to Evil HQ. Having a Personal Assistant be actually on the device as always been a personal preference. Qualcomm is running a webinar "The Path to a Personalized, On-device Virtual Assistant" which presents their take on this thorny issue. It is register-only (unfortunately) but not a bad way to spend a lunch to see what's on the cutting edge.
